Checking The Timing

  1. Using Adapter T40058  and an angled ring wrench, turn the crankshaft to "TDC" in direction of rotation of the engine.

    Only Turn The Crankshaft In Direction Of Rotation Of The Engine -Arrow-!

  2. The notch -A-  must be aligned with the joint -arrow-  .

    Information 

    If you inadvertently turn the crankshaft beyond "TDC", turn it back approx. 30° and set it to "TDC" again.

  3. The threaded bores -arrows-  in the camshafts must be facing upwards.

  4. Unscrew screw plug -arrow-  for the "TDC" mark on the crankshaft from the cylinder block.

  5. Locking Pin T40069  must be screwed into the bore and tightened to → Tightening Torque: 25 Nm (19 ft. lb.)  .

    Locking pin T40069 must engage in the securing bore on the crankshaft -1-  .

  6. You must be able to secure the camshaft for cylinder bank 1 in "TDC" position using Camshaft Clamps T40133  .

  7. You must be able to secure the camshaft for cylinder bank 2 in "TDC" position using Camshaft Clamps T40133  .

  8. If the camshafts cannot be secured, the valve timing must be set.
