Replacing Bearings For Carrier, Rear Front Axle
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2018 Porsche Cayenne, 2017 Porsche Cayenne, 2016 Porsche Cayenne, 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and 2014 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Information
If a suspension subframe bearing is replaced, the other bearings must also be checked for cracks or other signs of damage.
Information
Hold the hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178 tightly while pressing it out.
- Engage the spindle on the eyelet at the side of the engine transverse bar at which you want to replace the bearing. Guide the spindle through the lower trailing arm and tighten the spindle slightly so that the spindle is slightly tensioned.
- Loosen front-axle bearings on both sides. Loosen the spindle carefully until there is sufficient clearance for using the press-out tool.
- The following pressure pieces are required for pressing out. → Pressure pieces for pressing out rear bearing
- Attach pressure pieces as shown in the picture and press out the bearing. → Pressing out rear bearing
Information
When replacing bearings, please make sure that one arrow is pointing in the direction of travel while the other arrow is pointing away from the direction of travel.
Fit front-axle bearing and check installation position. → Marking for front-axle bearing
- The following pressure pieces are required for pressing in. → Pressure pieces for pressing in rear bearing
- Connect pressure pieces as shown in the picture. → Pressing in rear bearing
To avoid damaging the bearing, the maximum → Pressure: 10 kN+/-5 Sekunde
must not be exceeded at the stop (10 KN = 350 bar). This conversion applies only to the hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178. The conversion depends on the diameter of the cylinder in question.
Information
Observe correct tightening torques.
- Carefully lift the front-axle carrier until the installation position is reached. Fit threaded joint on chassis subframe bearing. Tightening torque 120 Nm (89 ftlb.) +180°
- Remove the spindle.
