Replacing Bearings For Carrier: Notes

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2018 Porsche Cayenne, 2017 Porsche Cayenne, 2016 Porsche Cayenne, 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and 2014 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Information

If a suspension subframe bearing is replaced, the other bearings must also be checked for cracks or other signs of damage.

  1. Loosen the anti-roll bar from the connecting link on both sides. (Do not loosen the anti-roll bar for the rear front-axle bearings!) → 407819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT CONNECTING LINK
  2. Move the gear support under the engine transverse bar and lift it slightly using a suitable base (e.g. hard rubber support). (The gear support is not needed for the rear front-axle bearings).

  3. Engage the spindle on the eyelet at the side of the engine transverse bar at which you want to replace the bearing. Guide the spindle through the lower trailing arm and tighten the spindle slightly so that the spindle is slightly tensioned. → Fitting spindle

  4. Loosen the front-axle bearing on both sides, carefully lower the gear support (loosen the spindle carefully at the same time) until you get the clearance needed for using the press-out tool.
  5. The following pressure pieces are required for pressing out

    Information

Hold the hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178 tightly while pressing it out.

  6. Attach pressure pieces as shown in the picture and press out the bearing. → Pressing out front bearing

    Information

When replacing bearings, please make sure that one arrow is pointing in the direction of travel while the other arrow is pointing away from the direction of travel.

  7. Fit front-axle bearing and check installation position. → Marking for front-axle bearing

  9. Attach pressure pieces as shown in the picture and press in the bearing. → Pressing in front bearing  To avoid damaging the bearing, the maximum → Pressure: 10 kN+/-5 Seconds  must not be exceeded at the stop (10 KN = 350 bar). This conversion applies only to the hydraulic cylinder VAS 6178. The conversion depends on the diameter of the cylinder in question.

  10. Carefully lift the front-axle carrier until the installation position is reached. Fit threaded joint on front-axle carrier. Tightening torque 120 Nm (89 ftlb.) +180°
  11. Fit anti-roll bar on connecting link. → 407819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT CONNECTING LINK
  12. Remove the spindle.
