Installing Bearing Cover For Balance Shaft

→ Wear protective goggles.

Information 

Risk of contaminating the lubricating system.

• Cover open parts of the engine  .

1. Remove old sealant and sealant residue from the grooves and sealing faces on the bearing cover and on the crankcase and/or upper part of the oil pan. Use a rotating plastic brush, for example, to do this. → Cleaning sealing faces with a plastic brush

2. Clean the sealing faces to remove any oil and grease.
3. Cut off the nozzle on the tube at the front marking (nozzle diameter is approx. 2 mm).

4. Fit the seals -2 and 4-  and sealing rings -1 and 3-  .
5. Apply the bead of sealant to the clean sealing face of the bearing cover as shown in the illustration below.

   Information 

   • The bead of sealant must not be thicker than the specified thickness because otherwise excess sealant can get into the oil pan and can block the strainer in the oil pump  .
   • The bearing cover must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the sealant  .

     The bead of sealant must be between 1.5 and 2.0 mm high  .

6. Position the bearing cover and tighten the fastening screws. → Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.) 
7. Position the deflection roller on the bearing cover and tighten the fastening screw -arrow-  . → Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)

8. Fit cap on the drive-belt deflection roller.
9. Bend the fastening clip on the coolant pipe -2-  back to its original position.

10. Tighten the fastening screws to the right -1-  of the coolant pipe -2-  . → Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
