Assembly Overview - Pistons And Connecting Rods

  1. Screws/replace → Initial tightening: 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) → Final tightening: +90° 
    • Oil thread and contactsurface
    • Use old screw to measure radial clearance, tighten to 50 Nm (37 ftlb.) but do not tighten further.
  2. Connecting-rod bearing cap
    • Mark forre-installation
    • Mark cylinder allocation with paint/colored marker
  3. Bearing shells
    • Check that retaining lugs are seated securely
    • Mark used bearing shells for re-installation, but not on the running surface.
    • Oversize bearing shells are available for re-machined crankshaftcon-rod journals
    • Connecting-rod bearing lugs are aligned
  4. Circlip/replace 
  5. Piston pin
    • Heat stiff pistons to approx.60°C
  6. Pistons
    • Mark installation position and allocation to cylinder
  7. Piston rings
    • Offset gap by 120°
    • Installation position: "TOP" marking or side with lettering towardspiston crown
