Removing Automatic Transmission

Hot fluid
- Danger of scalding
→ Let the fluid cool down.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
- Remove heat shield from all-wheel final drive.
- Unscrew and remove fastening screws -arrows- securing heat shield to transmission and remove heat shield.
- Remove converter screws -arrow- through the opening in the starter using 3/8" - 5/16" bit connecting piece and Torx T55 bit screwdriver insert Nr. 42-1 .
- Turn the crankshaft further for the next converter screw using a socket-wrench insert 9714 .
- Remove safety clip -A- on the selector lever cable and use universal removal tool Nr. 21 to lever the cable off the ball joint -arrow- .
- Unscrew fastening screws for coolant pipes on the converter bell housing.
Information
- The line connections on the transmission and the ends of the ATF lines should be closed off after the lines have been separated from the transmission!
- Disconnect ATF lines from the transmission. To do this, unscrew screw -arrow- and remove lines.
- Remove fastening screw for ATF line holder on the converter bell housing.
- Unscrew fastening screws securing transmission to engine. To do this, unscrew four screws on the engine side and six screws on the transmission side.
- Remove transmission. Disconnect vent line -arrows- for the transfer gear while doing this.
