Removing Transfer Gear

  • Risk of squashing or crushing

→ Secure components to prevent them from falling down.

  1. Unscrew both exhaust system holders on the transfer gear -arrows-  .

  2. Release and disconnect cable plug -1-  on the transfer gear at the bottom.

  3. Support the automatic transmission at the oil pan using Transmission Jack VAG. 1383 A WE 1082  .
  4. Remove transmission cross member.
    1. 4.1. Unscrew M10 fastening screws -B-  on the transmission mount.
    2. 4.2. Unscrew M10 fastening screws -A-  at the outside and remove cross member.

      Information 

      • Get one or more people to help when installing/removing heavy or difficult-to-reach components  .
      • This will prevent or reduce the risk of possible damage  .
  5. Remove transfer gear.
    1. 5.1. Unscrew M10 aluminum screws on the transfer gear -arrows-  .
    2. 5.2. Lower the automatic transmission slightly using the transmission jack if necessary.
    3. 5.3. Replace aluminum screws.

  6. Remove transfer gear from the automatic transmission with the help of another person and set it down.
