Installing Transfer Gear

If the transfer gear with servo motor (control unit) is replaced, there is no need to reload data (classification data) .
Classification data can be read out of the control unit using the PIWIS Tester .
If only the servo motor is replaced, the classification data must be re-written into the control unit .
Classification data can be found on the transfer gear housing .

Get one or more people to help when installing/removing heavy or difficult-to-reach components .
This will prevent or reduce the risk of possible damage .

Information

Do not pull the transfer gear against the transmission with the fastening screws as this can tilt the transfer gear.

Installation is performed in reverse order. Pay particular attention to the following:
1. 1.1. Fit and secure the transfer gear with the help of another person.
2. 1.2. Check that dowel sleeves for centering the transmission/transfer gear in the transmission are fitted. These must be inserted if necessary.
3. 1.3. Grease splines on the drive shaft from the transfer gear and splines on the output shaft from the transmission with lubricant for clutch plate splines (Part No. 000.043.024.00).
4. 1.4. Slide the transfer gear fully onto the transmission and at the same time, guide the splines of the drive shaft/transfer gear and output shaft/transmission together so that they are centered. If the splines are positioned correctly, the transfer gear will slide as far as it can go against the transmission.
Fit and tighten new aluminum screws on the transfer gear evenly -arrows- .

Install transmission cross member.
1. 3.1. Fit cross member on the outside of the body using new M10 screws -A- .
2. 3.2. Fit cross member on the transmission mount using new M10 screws -B- .

Further assembly is carried out in reverse order.
