Checking Radial Play Of Crankshaft
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2018 Porsche Cayenne, 2017 Porsche Cayenne, 2016 Porsche Cayenne, 2015 Porsche Cayenne, and 2014 Porsche Cayenne. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Dismantle bearing cover for shaft journals and remove along with bearing shell.
- Clean shaft journal and bearing shell with a lint-free cloth.
Information
- When measuring radial play, do not rotate the crankshaft .
- Plastigage is highly susceptible to damage Insert Plastigage carefully .
- With the Plastigage strip inserted, do not allow any sideways or axial movement of the bearing shells otherwise the measurements may be incorrect (changes to the Plastigage strip) .
- Lay the 10 mm strip of red Plastigage on the shaft journal or on the bearing shell. -arrow-
- Fit the bearing cover along with the bearing shell and tighten to the specified Tightening Torque. For details, see → 134819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CRANKSHAFT
Information
- The Plastigage packaging features a representation of a measurement scale on both sides, one in inches and the other in millimeters. Do not mix up the two of them when measuring .
- Remove the bearing cover again and compare the thickness of the Plastigage with the scale on the packaging - see Fig 2-. If the wear limit is reached or exceeded, replace the crankshaft and bearing shells. → 134819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CRANKSHAFT .
