Checking Coolant Quality (High-Temperature Cooling System)
- Danger of scalding
→ Let the fluid cool down.
→ Wear personal protective gear.
- Risk of damage to vehicle components
→ Do not start the engine after relieving the system pressure.
→ Fill the cooling system correctly and bleed it before starting the engine.
Information
The coolant quality must be checked to ensure that there is no air in the cooling system.
- Open the cap on the coolant reservoir.
- Connect the cooling system tester:
- 2.1. Cooling system tester WE 1069 must be attached to the coolant reservoir.
- 2.2. Build up overpressure of approx. 1.0 bar using the hand pump on the cooling system tester.
Information
If there are no leaks in the cooling system, the coolant level may drop by a maximum of 25 mm. A considerably larger drop in the coolant level or evaporation of the coolant from the expansion tank indicates that there is an air bubble in the cooling system.
- 2.3. Check the coolant level in the reservoir.
Coolant level OK:
Perform a test drive until the engine reaches its operating temperature.
Check the coolant level again.
Coolant level drops significantly:
Drain the cooling system
Repeat the filling process for the cooling system
Check the coolant quality
