Teaching Roof Console

Tools:

• PIWIS Tester II 9818  with PIWIS Tester test software version 14.300  (or higher) installed.
• Suitable battery charger (charging current of at least 40 A), e.g. Battery charger 45A WE 1393 

Procedure:

Information 

The procedure described here is based on the PIWIS Tester II test software version 14.300  .

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the instructions that must be followed.

A discrepancy may arise with later software versions for example.

1. Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A  to the jump-start terminals in the engine compartment.
2. Switch on the ignition using the original driver's key  .

   To do this, replace the control panel in the ignition lock with the original driver's key if necessary.

3. PIWIS Tester II 9818  with software version 14.300  (or higher) installed must be connected to the vehicle communication module (VCI) via the USB cable  . Then, connect the communication module to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester.
4. On the PIWIS Tester start screen, call up the ==> 'Diagnostics'  menu and select the relevant vehicle type.

   The diagnostic application is then started and the control unit selection screen is populated.

5. Re-code rear-end electronics control unit automatically.
   1. 5.1. In the control unit selection screen (==> 'Overview'  menu), select the == 'Rear-end electronics'  control unit and press [>>] to confirm your selection → see Fig 1.

   2. 5.2. Once the 'rear-end electronics' control unit has been found and is displayed in the overview, select the ==> 'Codings/adaptations'  menu.
   3. 5.3. Select the ==> 'Automatic coding'  function and press [>>] to start coding → see Fig 2.

   4. 5.4. When coding is complete, the message "Coding has been completed successfully" is displayed and a tick appears in the 'Status' box → see Fig 3.

      If coding is not completed successfully (error message "Coding was not completed successfully"), coding must be repeated  .

   5. 5.5. Once coding has been completed successfully, press [>>] to return to the start page of the ==> 'Codings/adaptations'  menu.
6. Teach the roof console to suit the vehicle.
   1. 6.1. Select the ==> 'Drive links/checks'  menu on the PIWIS Tester.
   2. 6.2. Select the ==> 'Teach'  function and press [>>] to confirm your selection → see Fig 4.

   3. 6.3. Select the ==> 'Teach roof console'  function and confirm your selection by pressing [>>] (→ see Fig 5).

   4. 6.4. Start the ==> 'Teach roof console'  function by pressing [F8].

      Once the roof console has been taught, the message "Successful execution without return value"  appears in the PIWIS Tester display → see Fig 6.

      If the roof console cannot  be taught successfully, the process must be repeated  .

   5. 6.5. Once the roof console has been taught successfully, press [<<] to return to the start page of the ==> "Drive links/checks"  menu.
   6. 6.6. Select the ==> 'Overview'  menu and press [<<] to return to the control unit selection screen.
7. Read out and erase fault memories.
   1. 7.1. In the control unit selection screen (==> 'Overview'  menu), press [F7] to call up the ==> 'Additional menu'  (→ see Fig 7).

   2. 7.2. Select the function ==> 'Read all fault memories and erase if required'  and press [>>] to confirm → see Fig 8.

      The fault memories of the control units are read out.

   3. 7.3. Once you have read out the fault memories, delete the fault memory entries by pressing [F8].
   4. 7.4. Confirm the query as to whether you really want to delete all fault memory entries and press [>>] ("Yes") to confirm.

      The faults stored in the fault memories of the various control units are deleted.

      Information 

      The fault memories of individual control units (e.g. fault memories of the control units for front-end electronics, rear-end electronics, etc.) cannot be erased, proceed as follows:

      • Switch off ignition  .
      • Disconnect the PIWIS Tester diagnostic connector from the diagnostic socket  .
      • Lock the vehicle using the driver's key  .
      • Wait approx. 1 minute before unlocking the vehicle again  .
      • Plug the PIWIS Tester diagnostic connector into the diagnostic socket again and restore communication with the vehicle  .
      • Read out the fault memories of these control units again and erase the fault memories separately  .

      If control units are found to have faults, which cannot be erased and are not caused by replacing the roof console, these faults must be found and corrected.

   5. 7.5. Once you have erased the fault memories, select the ==> 'Overview'  menu and press [<<] to return to the control unit selection screen → see Fig 9.

8. Switch off ignition.
9. Disconnect the PIWIS Tester from the vehicle.
10. Switch off and disconnect the battery charger.
11. On vehicles with Porsche Entry & Drive, replace the original vehicle key in the ignition lock with the control panel again.
