Removing Rear Window

WARNING: Vehicle windows removed and installed incorrectly
  • Danger of cuts
  • Risk of eye injuries

→ Wear personal protective gear.

→ Always shut off power supply when replacing cutting knife.

Information 

  1. Open the rear lid.
  2. Disconnect plug connection for rear window heating on the left and right.
    1. 2.1. Disconnect connector -arrows-  .

    2. 2.2. Affix the connector securely to the rear window using adhesive tape -1-  .

  3. Remove grommet for wiper motor for rear window washer. (Only for vehicles with rear window washer)

    Information 

    • The fastening force can be increased by moistening the fastening intake  .
  4. Affix the outer suction cups to the rear window.
  5. Unwrap the cutting thread (round thread) from the reel by approx. 6 turns (6 m) and cut using side cutters.

    Information 

    • The cutting thread must be positioned under the rim  .
  6. Guide the cutting thread into the gap in the glass.
    1. 6.1. Wet the rear window seal -1-  all the way around with soapy water.
    2. 6.2. Pull the cutting thread -2-  all the way through the gap between the rear window and the body -arrows-  .
    3. 6.3. Attach the free end of the cutting thread to the lid hinge.

  7. Guide the cutting thread inward.
    1. 7.1. Use the scratch awl -1-  to apply a bead of adhesive from the inside out -arrow A-  .
    2. 7.2. Thread the cutting thread -2-  into the scratch awl and pull it into the interior of the vehicle -arrow B-  .
    3. 7.3. Allow approx. 1 metre of cutting thread to hang into the interior of the vehicle.

      • The cutting thread must be positioned under the rim  .

      Information 

      • Make sure not to damage the electric connections when removing the glass with the cutting wire  .
      • Cut up to just before the connection  .
      • Slacken the cutting wire  .
      • Guide the cutting wire past the connection on the inside  .

      • Counter with an awl  .

      • Make sure that the cutting wire does not press against the electric connection when separating the glass  .
      • Continue separating the window glass  .
  8. Remove rear window using the glass removal kit.
    1. 8.1. Insert the cutting thread -1-  into the bore on the spooling device -2-  .
    2. 8.2. Position the spooling device -2-  in the center of the glass and press the suction cups firmly against the rear window -3-  .
    3. 8.3. Secure the suction cups to the rear window using the actuating lever.
    4. 8.4. Cut the rear window by winding the cutting thread onto the spooling device in -direction of arrow-  .

      Re-position the spooling device to reduce the tensile force of the cutting thread when removing the glass.

  9. Remove rear window.
