Installing Rear Wheel Bearing
WARNING:
Mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic press

→ Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal .
→ Observe specified tightening torques .
→ Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts .
Information
- The wheel bearing has a magnetized multipole seal, which acts as a pulse sender for the wheel speed sensor .
- The multiple-pole seal -1- must always face upwards when the wheel bearing is set down (this does not apply when pressing the wheel hub into the wheel bearing). Do not damage the multipole seal and do not come into contact with magnetic objects (e.g. magnetized screwdriver, magnet) .
- Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.

- 1.1. Fit special tools as shown in the illustration → Pressing wheel hub into wheel bearing .
- 1.2. Press the wheel hub into the wheel bearing.
- Insert the wheel bearing with the wheel hub into the wheel bearing housing.
- Tighten fastening screws -1- securing wheel bearing -2- to wheel bearing housing -3- . Initial tightening 80 Nm (59 ftlb.) Final tightening +120°
- Tighten fastening screws -1- on retainer plate -2- securing parking brake shoes to the wheel carrier -3- . Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
