Only  for vehicles with Tiptronic S (I-no. G1G)

NOTE: The SportDesign steering wheel with shift paddles without  Sport, Sport Plus & Launch Control mode display in the steering wheel spoke can be retrofitted on the Cayenne.

The enabling codes for cruise control and on-board computer may be required. These can be found in the vehicle code information in the PIWIS information system.

Only  for vehicles with multi-function steering wheel (I-no. 2ZM/1XE/1XJ/2FX/2ZH) or leather steering wheel (I-no. 2PH) and leather steering wheel trim (ALL).

For vehicles with leather steering column casing, please use one of the part numbers listed below when placing your order!

Also order the steering-column switch.

The following instructions will help you to identify the required steering-column switch.

1. Look for the standard steering-column switch in the Porsche Electronic Parts Catalog (PET). To do this, activate the VIN filter in the PET (1).
2. Take note of the I-nos.
3. Replace the I-nos. for the multi-function steering wheel (e.g. 2ZM/1XE/2FX) with the SportDesign steering wheel (I-no. 1ML).
(1) If the VIN filter in the PET does not work, the standard steering-column switch must be identified by means of the I-nos. in the vehicle information (PIWIS information system).

Work Procedure: 

  1. All  variants:

    Preparatory work.

    1. 1.1 Connect a battery charger.

      > 2X00IN BATTERY TRICKLE CHARGE

    2. 1.2 Read out data from the steering wheel electronics control unit. See > 916255 REPLACING CONTROL UNIT FOR STEERING WHEEL ELECTRONICS

      Complete Steps 1 - 9.

    3. 1.3 Disconnect the battery.

      > 2X00IN WORK INSTRUCTIONS AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY

    4. 1.4 Remove standard steering wheel.

      >481019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING WHEEL 

    5. 1.5 Remove steering column casing.

      >481319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING COLUMN CASING 

    6. 1.6 Remove steering-column switch.

      > 945019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING-COLUMN SWITCH

    7. 1.7 Install new steering-column switch.

      > 945019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING-COLUMN SWITCH

    8. 1.8 Install steering column casing.

      >481319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING COLUMN CASING 

      1. 1.8.1 Only  for vehicles previously fitted with a multi-function steering wheel.

        Pull cover out of steering column casing.

      2. 1.8.2 Only  for vehicles with leather steering wheel trim and previously fitted multi-function steering wheel.

        Convert impact absorber.

      3. 1.8.3 Install steering column casing.

    9. Install SportDesign steering wheel with shift paddles.

      >481019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING WHEEL 

    10. Concluding work
      1. 3.1 Connect the battery.

        > 2X00IN WORK INSTRUCTIONS AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY

      2. 3.2 Write data into the steering wheel electronics control unit. Complete Steps 10 - 14. See > 916255 REPLACING CONTROL UNIT FOR STEERING WHEEL ELECTRONICS .
        NOTE: Voltage drop 
        • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit 
        • Risk of damage to control unit 
        • Fault entries in the control unit 
        • Coding in the control unit is aborted 
        • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming 
          1. Switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key before disconnecting the control unit.
          2. Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
          3. Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least > Nominal value 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

        Information 

        The > P90999 - PIWIS Tester 4  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

        The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear on the > P90999 - PIWIS Tester 4. 

      3. 3.3 Code SportDesign steering wheel with shift paddles.
        1. 3.3.1 Update vehicle data.

          Touch the "Overview" cell to return to the control unit overview.

          Select Additional menu by pressing F7.

          Select the Maintenance of vehicle data  function.

          Press F12 until PR numbers  appears in the Value group column.

          Select Steering wheels  in the Family column.

          Open the submenu in the Value column and select 1ML- Sports steering wheel with paddle  . Press F8 to save the value.

          The message Modified values have been buffered  appears.

          Press F12 until F8 can be activated.

          Selected values appear. Press F8 to write values.

          You see the message Creation of vehicle data has been completed.  Press F12 to switch to Log management.

          Open the log by pressing F10 and check that vehicle equipment 1ML- Sports steering wheel with paddle  has been entered. Close the log.

        2. 3.3.2 Adapt coding.

          Press F11 to switch to the control unit overview.

          Select all control units. Press F12 to continue.

          Switch to the Codings/adaptations  menu.

          Automatic coding  must be selected. Press F12 to continue.

          Wait until the message Coding has been completed successfully  appears. Press F12 to continue.

      4. 3.4 Enable on-board computer and cruise control if necessary.
        1. 3.4.1 Select Steering wheel electronics  control unit. Press F12 to continue.
        2. 3.4.2 Switch to the Maintenance/repairs  menu.
        3. 3.4.3 Select the Function enable  function. Press F12 to continue.
        4. 3.4.4 Enter the cruise control enabling code and confirm by touching the Status  cell.
        5. 3.4.5 Enter the on-board computer enabling code and confirm by touching the Status  cell.
        6. 3.4.6 Press F8 to execute. Wait until the following message appears: Enable was successful.  Press F12 to continue.
      5. 3.5 Read out the fault memories of all systems, work through any existing faults and erase the fault memories.

        > READING OUT FAULT MEMORY / READING OUT FAULT MEMORY

      6. 3.6 Switch off ignition and disconnect > 9818 - PIWIS Tester II.
      7. 3.7 Disconnect battery charger.

        > 2X00IN BATTERY TRICKLE CHARGE
