Ti, 1950 Unnecessary Replacement Of Coolant Pumps (102/12)

Concerns: 

Coolant pump 

Situation: 

Test results for coolant pumps supplied with damage category "leaking". 

Most of the coolant pumps delivered to the Warranty Parts Test Centre with the damage category "leaking (e.g. SA-5014)" were indeed found to have traces of coolant residue, but a subsequent function test has shown that almost all the coolant pumps that were diagnosed as leaking were actually fully functional and were not leaking  .

In this case, we must point out that the presence of slight traces of coolant residue on the coolant pump housing is not an indication that the coolant pump is leaking and needs to be replaced.

Procedure: 

Before replacing  the coolant pump, it is important therefore to use the following criteria to first check whether there are compelling technical grounds for replacing the coolant pump:

1. There are slight traces of coolant residue on the coolant pump housing when you examine it during damage diagnosis.

   The traces of coolant residue are dry  and there are no apparent drops forming  (see example > Figure below  ).

   1. In this case, there are no technical grounds for replacing the coolant pump.
   2. You are not  authorised to replace the coolant pump under warranty.
2. There are significant traces of coolant residue on the coolant pump housing when you examine it during damage diagnosis.

   The traces of coolant residue are moist  and drops of coolant have formed on the housing  .

   1. In this case, the coolant pump must be replaced.
