Removing Cover

WARNING: Vehicle can fall down
  • Risk of squashing or crushing
  • Risk of damage to the vehicle

→ Do not place any solid objects under the raised vehicle.

→ Ensure that the lifting platform is prevented from lowering.

→ Remove solid objects before lowering the vehicle.

→ Raise the vehicle only at the jacking points provided.

→ The outer jacking points should be used primarily.

  1. Detach part of cover for centre underbody.
    1. 1.1. Unscrew the four rear screws on the cover.

      Information 

      • Do not kink underbody panelling. 
  2. Remove brace plate.
    1. 2.1. Bend the cover down as far as required until you have easy access to the threaded joints for the brace plate -A-  .
    2. 2.2. Remove screws -1-  .
    3. 2.3. Remove brace plate -A-  .

  3. Disconnect cable plug for temperature sensor.
    1. 3.1. Release cable plug -1-  by pulling out the locking element -arrow-  .
    2. 3.2. Release and pull off cable plug.
    3. 3.3. Remove claw plate holder -2-  .

  4. Support the transmission using transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A WE 1082  .
  5. Loosen transmission mounts.
    1. 5.1. Unscrew fastening nut -2-  .
    2. 5.2. Pull out transmission mount screw -1-  .

  6. Remove transmission bracket -A-  .
    1. 6.1. Pull water tube holder -B-  off the transmission bracket.
    2. 6.2. Remove screws -3-  .
    3. 6.3. Remove transmission bracket.
  7. Remove transmission support -C-  .
    1. 7.1. Unscrew fastening nut -4-  .
    2. 7.2. Lower the transmission by about 30 mm until the transmission support can be removed.
    3. 7.3. Remove transmission support.
  8. Remove impact absorber -1-  .
    1. 8.1. Remove screws -2-  .
    2. 8.2. Remove impact absorber by pulling it downwards.

      Information 

      • Avoid damage from drilling chips. 
      • Do not damage the transmission housing while drilling. 
      • Do not apply pressure while drilling. 
  9. Remove upper cover -1-  .

    1. 9.1. Spot-drill the upper cover at two opposite positions using a greased drill bit (ø 2 - 2.5 mm) and carefully remove chips.

      Use an electric screwdriver or angle drill for drilling holes. 

    2. 9.2. Screw two tapping screws into the bore holes.
    3. 9.3. Pull the cover off alternately using slide hammer kit Nr.168  at the tapping screws.
  10. Remove lower cover -2-  .
    1. 10.1. Spot-drill the centre of the lower cover using a greased drill bit (ø 2 - 2.5 mm) and carefully remove chips.
    2. 10.2. Screw extractor tip of the tool slide hammer kit Nr.168  into the bore hole and pull off the cover.
    3. 10.3. Alternatively, screw a tapping screw into the bore hole.
    4. 10.4. Pull off cover using slide hammer kit Nr.168  .

  11. Clean sealing faces.
