Reworking Roof Joint Cover Strip

  1. Open the sliding-roof panel.
  2. Remove roof joint cover strip at the left and right.
    NOTE: Roof joint cover strip removed incorrectly
    • Roof joint cover strip can bend out of shape

    → Unclip the roof joint cover strip carefully and evenly at the retaining clips.

    1. 2.1. Unclip roof joint cover strip -1-  carefully and evenly up out of the retaining clips -2, 3-  (-arrow-  ) using a plastic wedge.

  3. Check flock-coating on the roof joint cover strip sealing lip. If worn, replace the roof joint cover strip if necessary.
  4. Close the sliding-roof panel.
    1. 4.1. Switch on ignition and close the sliding-roof panel until it is approx. 20 mm away from the air deflector.
    2. 4.2. Switch off ignition.
  5. Clean the sliding-roof panel.

    1. 5.1. Thoroughly clean the sliding-roof panel at the sides and front along the rubber coating (outer edge of glass surface) with isopropanol.

    Information 

    • The bonding surfaces must be clean and free of grease. 
    • The Teflon tape must be applied without blisters; creases and blisters are not permitted. 
    • When sticking on the Teflon tape, make sure that it is affixed precisely on the rubber coating and also that bonding is guaranteed by using contact pressure. 
  6. Stick on Teflon tape at the sides (contact surface to roof joint cover strip).
    1. 6.1. Place Teflon tape -1-  on the front and side edges of the panel -2-  (rubber coating) and stick it on approximately as far as the middle of the panel (Fig 3).
    2. 6.2. Switch on ignition and close the sliding-roof panel -2-  completely -arrow-  (Fig 3).
    3. 6.3. Switch off ignition.
    4. 6.4. Stick on Teflon tape -1-  as far as the outer edge of the panel -2-  (rubber coating) (Fig 3).
    5. 6.5. Cut off the Teflon tape -1-  flush with the outer edge.

  7. Open the sliding-roof panel.
    1. 7.1. Switch on ignition and open the sliding-roof panel until it is approx. 100 mm away from the air deflector.
    2. 7.2. Switch off ignition.
  8. Stick on Teflon tape at the front (contact surface to cowl panel cover).
    1. 8.1. Place Teflon tape -1-  on the front edge of the panel -2-  (rubber coating) so that it is flush with the Teflon tape at the side and stick it on.

  9. Install roof joint cover strip at the left and right.
    1. 9.1. Check retaining clips -4-  and replace them if necessary.
    2. 9.2. Slide the roof joint cover strip -1-  under the trim frame of the rear window -2-  (-arrow A-  ).
    3. 9.3. Position roof joint cover strip -1-  with the positioning strap at the cowl panel cover -3- (-arrow B-)  .
    4. 9.4. Press in roof joint cover strip -1-  until it clicks into place.
