Removing Engine Carrier

Specifications for wrench sizes (a/f specifications) for screw heads are described as follows:

  1. Engine carrier
  2. Intermediate flange
  3. Top left spacer sleeve
  4. Heat shield
  5. Hexagon collar nut, M10
  6. Hexagon-head bolt, M10 x 80
  7. Special screw, M10 x 130
  8. Sleeve nut, M12 (internal Torx T55), engine carrier to engine mounting
  9. Adapter
  10. Active engine mounting
  11. Hexagon-head bolt, M8 x 75
  12. Top right spacer sleeve
  1. Unclip electric line for exhaust temperature sensor (turbocharger 4-6) on the engine carrier. -arrows-

    Information 

    • It may only be supported over a large area at the oil pan. 
    • Localized loading is not permitted. 
  2. Support the engine at the oil pan using the transmission and unit jack Junior Jack 2.0 WE 1223  and GA passenger car transmission plate WE 1224  .
    1. 2.1. When positioning, pay attention to the oil level sensor.
    2. 2.2. Unscrew two special M12 nuts -1-  (internal Torx T55) on the engine mountings at the left and right.

  3. Unscrew special screw (a/f 16, M10 x 130) -arrow-  through the bore hole in the rear cross member.
    1. 3.1. Keep an eye on the spacer sleeve in the engine compartment when pulling out the screw.

    Information 

    • When lowering, the engine must not rest on the rear axle cross member. 
  4. Lower the engine.
  5. Loosen the other screws on the engine carrier.
    1. 5.1. Loosen and unscrew fastening screw (a/f 16, M10 x 80) -2-  . Keep an eye on the spacer sleeve in the engine compartment when pulling out the screw.
    2. 5.2. Unscrew two M10 fastening nuts (a/f 16) -1-  .

  6. Guide engine carrier out of the threaded bolts and remove it.
    1. 6.1. The intermediate flange can remain on the threaded bolts.
  7. Clean the engine carrier carefully and check for damage (cracks, deformation).
  8. The engine carrier must be replaced if it is damaged.
