Preliminary Work

→ Wear protective gloves and goggles.

→ In the event of contact (eyes or skin), wash immediately with water.

→ Collect emerging Pentosin.

→ Use caps to protect the wiring against soiling and damage.

→ Clean hoses and wiring immediately.

1. On vehicles with Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), move the selector lever to position N and release the handbrake. 
   1. 1.1. On vehicles with manual transmission, release the handbrake. 
   WARNING: Vehicle can fall down

   • Risk of squashing or crushing
   • Risk of damage to the vehicle

   → Do not place any solid objects under the raised vehicle.

   → Ensure that the lifting platform is prevented from lowering.

   → Remove solid objects before lowering the vehicle.

   → Raise the vehicle only at the jacking points provided.

   → The outer jacking points should be used primarily.

   Information 

   • When raising the vehicle, take care to maintain access to the screws for the diagonal struts in the vicinity of the rear jacking points. 
2. Raise the vehicle at the prescribed jacking points.

   → LIFTING THE VEHICLE .

3. Read out the fault memory using the PIWIS Tester 9718  .

   → 033500 ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS (OBD) .

4. Place protective covers on the body to prevent damage.
5. Disconnect the battery and cover the terminals or battery.

   → WM 2X00IN WORK INSTRUCTIONS AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY .

   WARNING: Hot fluid

   • Danger of scalding

   → Let the fluid cool down.

   → Wear personal protective gear.

6. Open cap -1-  on coolant expansion tank.

   Do not open the cap when the engine is hot - cooling system is pressurized. Allow the engine to cool down sufficiently!

7. Remove pressure pipe.

   → 214119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING PRESSURE PIPE .

8. Remove air cleaner housing.

   → 242519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING AIR CLEANER HOUSING - TURBO .

9. Release drive belt.

   → 137819 REMOVING AND INSTALLING DRIVE BELT - TURBO .

   1. 9.1. Mark the rolling direction of the drive belt (with a paint marker, for example). Check the drive belt and pulleys for signs of damage.
   2. 9.2. Slacken the drive belt and remove from the pulleys.

10. Raise the vehicle.
11. Remove underbody covers.

    → 519419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER FOR REAR UNDERBODY .

    → 519319 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER FOR CENTRE UNDERBODY .

    WARNING: Danger of injury and material damage when using Pentosin.

    • Risk of skin irritation and damage to skin.
    • Damage to hoses and wiring.

    → Wear protective gloves and goggles.

    → In the event of contact (eyes or skin), wash immediately with water.

    → Collect emerging Pentosin.

    → Use caps to protect the wiring against soiling and damage.

    → Clean hoses and wiring immediately.

12. Open the plug-in couplings for the steering hydraulic system on the underbody.

    → 4X00IN PLUG-IN COUPLINGS FOR HYDRAULIC LINES - AS OF MODEL YEAR 2009 .

    1. 12.1. Use the loosening tool 9780  to release the couplings.
       1. Hydraulic line "connector"
       2. Hydraulic line "coupling"
       3. Circlip

    2. 12.2. Collect emerging Pentosin in a suitable container.
    3. 12.3. Re-connect lines immediately after draining them.
       WARNING: Hot fluid

       • Danger of scalding

       → Let the fluid cool down.

       → Wear personal protective gear.

13. Drain coolant.

    → 193817 DRAINING AND FILLING COOLANT - TURBO (INCLUDES BLEEDING THE SYSTEM) .

    1. 13.1. Unscrew drain plugs on the coolant guide and thermostat housing and collect emerging coolant.
14. Disconnect two coolant hoses -1-  for heating.
    1. 14.1. Then open the spring band clamps -2-  and pull off the hoses. Collect emerging coolant.

15. Pull off cable plug and coolant hose on the disc valve and collect emerging coolant.

16. Place a sufficiently large drip pan under the vehicle to collect any remaining coolant and lower the vehicle.
    1. 16.1. Continue to work in the engine compartment while the coolant is draining.
