Installing Rear-Axle Carrier Side Section

  1. Rear-axle carrier side section
  2. Lock nut (replace)
  3. Washer
  4. Stud, M12
  5. Elastic bolt, M12 (replace)
  6. Screw, M12
  7. Lock nut, M12 (replace)
  8. Transverse strut
  9. Screw, M10
  10. Diagonal brace
  11. Rubber mount
  12. Screw, M10 or M12
  13. Screw, M12
  14. Cross member
  15. Screw, M12
  16. Lock nut, M12 (replace)
  17. Sensor
  18. Brake hose bracket
  19. M6 screw

Replace all lock nuts and screws -5-. 

  1. Install rear-axle carrier side section -1-  .

    Fit rear-axle carrier side section -1-  . Loosely fit lock nut -7-  and screws -5, 6-  .

  2. Fit upper control arm -8-  .

    Fit both control arms -8-  at the rear-axle carrier side section. To do this, screw in (fit) bolts -11, 12-  .

  3. Fit lower control arms -13, 21-  .

    Insert both control arms -13, 21-  on the rear-axle carrier side section and screw in (fit) bolts -12, 15, 22-  .

  4. Install cross member -14-  .

    Insert cross member -14-  and fit M12 x 80 bolts -15, 16-  .

  5. Install diagonal braces -10-  .

    Fit diagonal braces -10-  and screw in (fit) screws -12, 13-  .

  6. Install the transverse strut.

    Fit transverse strut and screw in (fit) screws.

  7. Fit brake hose bracket on the rear-axle carrier side section.
  8. Install diagonal arm -17-  .
    1. 8.1. Insert diagonal arm -17-  and fit it on the wishbone -21-  . To do this, screw in (fit) bolts -19, 20-  .
    2. 8.2. Fit diagonal arm -17-  on the rear-axle carrier side section -1-  . To do this, screw in (fit) bolts -18, 19-  .

  9. Tighten the rear axle.

    Observe prescribed tightening sequence so as not to twist the rear axle. 

    1. 9.1. Tighten front rear-axle carrier side section -7-  at the left and right.

      Stud -4-  securing rear-axle carrier side section to body (front)

      → Tightening torque: 46 Nm (34 ftlb.) 

      Lock nut -7-  securing rear-axle carrier side section to body (front)

      → Tightening torque: 110 Nm (81.5 ftlb.) 

    2. 9.2. Tighten rear rear-axle carrier side section -6-  at the left and right.
    3. 9.3. Tighten center rear-axle carrier side section -5-  at the left and right.

      Rear-axle carrier side section to body (center and rear) -5 and 6-

      → Tightening torque: 110 Nm (81.5 ftlb.)

    4. 9.4. Tighten cross member -14-  to carrier side section at the bottom left/right first, then at the top left/right.

      → Tightening torque: 110 Nm (81.5 ftlb.)

    5. 9.5. Tighten diagonal brace to the body -12-  at the left and right.

      → Tightening torque: M10=65 Nm (48 ftlb.) 

      → Tightening torque: M12=110 Nm (81.5 ftlb.) 

    6. 9.6. Tighten diagonal brace to the cross member -13-  at the left and right.

      → Tightening torque: 110 Nm (81.5 ftlb.) 

    7. 9.7. Tighten diagonal brace to rear-axle carrier side section (M10 collar nut).

      → Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.) 

    8. 9.8. Tighten transverse strut to (front) rear-axle carrier side section at the left and right.

      → Tightening torque: 65 Nm (48 ftlb.)

  10. Tighten all trailing arms.
    1. 10.1. Tighten diagonal arm.

      Diagonal arm to rear-axle carrier side section

      → Tightening torque: 180 Nm (133 ftlb.) 

      Diagonal arm to wishbone

      → Tightening torque: 160 Nm (118 ftlb.) 

    2. 10.2. Tighten upper control arms.

      → Tightening torque: 110 Nm (81.5 ftlb.) 

    3. 10.3. Tighten lower control arms (toe and transverse control arms) (toe and camber eccentrics).

      Set the toe and camber eccentrics to the original position (previously marked position) -arrows-  of the rear-axle carrier side section. Copy the previously marked position from the old rear-axle carrier side section to the new part if necessary. Tighten the lock nuts.

      → Tightening torque: 100 Nm (74 ftlb.)

  11. Fit anti-roll bar on rear-axle carrier side section.

    Screw in and tighten screws -1-  .

    → Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
