Replacing Rear Disc Brake Pads: Notes

Information 

  1. Remove rear brake calliper with line bracket.

    1. 1.1. Release and unplug electric plug connection for electric parking brake (EPB) -1-  and unclip it from the cable retainer -2-  .
    2. 1.2. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for rpm sensor -3-  .
    3. 1.3. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for PASM -4-  and unclip cable retainer -5-  from its holder -7-  .
    4. 1.4. Pull line for brake pad wear indicator out of brake calliper and brake pad.
    5. 1.5. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -6-  securing holder to wheel bearing housing.
    6. 1.6. Evenly set back brake pads a little using water pump pliers.

      Information 

      • Never use an impact bolter to loosen and tighten the brake calliper on the wheel carrier  .
    7. 1.7. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -arrows-  .

    8. 1.8. Remove brake calliper together with the holder from the wheel bearing housing and place on a suitable base (e.g. universal jack). Use a suitable cloth as an intermediate layer to protect paintwork from damage.

      When positioning the brake calliper on the base, carefully guide the brake hose!

  2. Fit brake piston on the brake calliper between the disc brake pads using piston reset tool (replaces P83) Nr.144  . Then press the brake pads back evenly → Pressing back brake pads  .

  3. Carefully insert a commercially available screwdriver between the brake pad/brake calliper and lever the brake pad out by turning the screwdriver slightly -direction arrows-  .

    Make sure not to damage the dust boots on the brake pistons when doing this  .

  4. Remove pad retaining springs.
