Removing The Tie Rod (Rear-Axle Steering Adjuster)

  1. If you intend to continue using the rear axle steering adjuster, it must be cleaned together with adjacent areas before removal.
    1. 1.1. Use a high-pressure cleaner without cleaning agents. Maintain a minimum distance of 0.5 m!
    2. 1.2. Blow out servo motor for rear axle steering using compressed air and leave it to dry.
  2. Mark position of eccentric washer -1-  with respect to the rear-axle carrier side section (toe adjustment).

    Then loosen the lock nut -2-  on the toe control arm. Counter at the eccentric screw -3-  at the same time.

  3. Remove self-levelling sensor (height sensor).

    1. 3.1. Unscrew fastening screw -1-  from the self-levelling sensor holder.
    2. 3.2. Unclip holder -A-  and remove it from the rear-axle trailing arm.
  4. Wiring of rear-axle steering: Take three connectors out of the holder (arrows), unlatch and disconnect the plug connections.

  5. If you intend to continue using the rear axle steering adjuster, the connectors must be protected from dirt, damage and moisture after disconnecting them.
    1. 5.1. Wrap a clean cloth around the electric plug connections for the wire harness -1-  at the servo motor for rear axle steering to protect them from damage and use a tie-wrap -3-  to secure them in a watertight plastic bag -4-  .

  6. Remove rear-axle carrier side section -1-  together with the toe control arm -2-  and trailing arms -3 and 4-  .

    1. 6.1. Unscrew fastening screws -2-  and fastening nuts -3-  from the rear-axle carrier side section -1-  .

    2. 6.2. Remove rear-axle carrier side section -1-  by pulling it downwards.
  7. Remove tie rod (rear-axle steering adjuster) -2-  on rear-axle carrier side section -1-  .
