Removing Rear-Axle Carrier Side Section

  1. Rear-axle carrier side section
  2. Lock nut
  3. Washer
  4. Stud, M12
  5. Elastic bolt, M12
  6. Screw, M12
  7. Lock nut, M12
  8. Transverse strut
  9. Screw, M10
  10. Diagonal brace
  11. Rubber mount
  12. Screw
  13. Screw
  14. Cross member
  15. Screw
  16. Lock nut
  17. Sensor
  18. Brake hose bracket
  19. Screw, M6
  1. Loosen drive shafts on the transmission side.
    1. 1.1. Counter using special tool adapter plate 9510/1  (-1-  ).

      Information 

      • Protect the drive shafts from mechanical damage. 
    2. 1.2. Unscrew the six bolts between the drive shaft and transmission flange.

  2. Remove anti-roll bar on rear-axle carrier side section -1-  .

  3. Mark eccentric threaded joints (toe and transverse control arms) on the rear-axle carrier side section.
    1. 3.1. Mark the position of the toe and camber eccentrics on the rear-axle carrier side section -arrows-  .

  4. Remove transverse strut.

    Unscrew screws and remove transverse strut.

    Information 

    • When raising the vehicle, take care to maintain access to the screws for the diagonal struts in the vicinity of the rear jacking points. 
  5. Remove right and left diagonal braces -10-  .

    Unscrew screws -12, 13-  and lock nuts (collar nuts) on the rear-axle carrier side sections. Remove right and left diagonal braces -10-  .

  6. Remove the cross member -14-  .
    1. 6.1. Loosen nuts on the bottom threaded joint (M12 x 80) and pull out the bolts.
    2. 6.2. The top threaded joint -15, 16-  (M12 x 80) only needs to be loosened because of the slots.
    3. 6.3. Remove the cross member -14-  .

  7. Remove brake hose bracket on the rear-axle carrier side section.
  8. Remove diagonal arm -17-  .
    1. 8.1. Remove diagonal arm -17-  at the wishbone -21-  . To do this, loosen and unscrew the bolts -19, 20-  .
    2. 8.2. Remove diagonal arm -17-  at the rear-axle carrier side section -1-  . To do this, loosen and unscrew the bolts -18, 19-  .
    3. 8.3. Remove diagonal arm -17-  .

  9. Remove upper control arm -8-  .

    Remove both control arms -8-  at the rear-axle carrier side section. To do this, loosen and unscrew bolts -9, 10-  and -11, 12-  .

  10. Remove lower control arms -13, 21-  .

    Remove both control arms -13, 21-  at the rear-axle carrier side section. To do this, loosen and unscrew the bolts -12, 15, 22-  .

  11. Remove rear-axle carrier side section -1-  .

    Unscrew lock nut -7-  , screws -5, 6-  and remove rear-axle carrier side section -1-  .
