Replacing Rear Disc Brake Pads: Notes
Information
- Do not open the brake system .
- Do not loosen the brake line from the brake calliper when loosening the brake calliper .
- The core of the warning contact wire must not be left exposed! It does not matter if the insulation is worn .
- If necessary, remove a little brake fluid from the reservoir by suction in order to prevent an overflow when the disc brake pads are pushed back .
- Remove rear brake calliper with line bracket.
- 1.1. Release and unplug electric plug connection for electric parking brake (EPB) -1- and unclip it from the cable retainer -2- .
- 1.2. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for rpm sensor -3- .
- 1.3. Release and disconnect electric plug connection for PASM -4- and unclip cable retainer -5- from its holder -7- .
- 1.4. Pull line for brake pad wear indicator out of brake calliper and brake pad.
- 1.5. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -6- securing holder to wheel bearing housing.
- 1.6. Evenly set back brake pads a little using water pump pliers.
Information
- Never use an impact bolter to loosen and tighten the brake calliper on the wheel carrier .
- 1.7. Unscrew and remove fastening screws -arrows- .
- 1.8. Remove brake calliper together with the holder from the wheel bearing housing and place on a suitable base (e.g. universal jack). Use a suitable cloth as an intermediate layer to protect paintwork from damage.
When positioning the brake calliper on the base, carefully guide the brake hose!
- Fit brake piston on the brake calliper between the disc brake pads using piston reset tool (replaces P83) Nr.144 . Then press the brake pads back evenly → Pressing back brake pads .
- Carefully insert a commercially available screwdriver between the brake pad/brake calliper and lever the brake pad out by turning the screwdriver slightly -direction arrows-

Make sure not to damage the dust boots on the brake pistons when doing this .
- Remove pad retaining springs.
