Central Bolts: Different Procedure For Suspension Alignment
Information
- Use the wheel-alignment adapter for wheels with central lock WE 1371 to secure the measured-value pickups or measuring reflectors on the wheels. The wheel-alignment adapters (central adapters) -1- are secured to the lockable wheel bolt on the central bolt (M8 thread) using the supplied screws -5- . Tightening torque: max. 15 Nm/11 ftlb.
- Four central adapters for wheels with central lock
- Four spacer rings. Have to be placed on the surface of the wheel bolt only on the 911 Turbo (997) and 911 Carrera GTS (997), together with -1- .
- Four screws (toggles)
- Four M8x55 fastening screws for central adapter when using spacer ring -2- (tightening torque max 15 Nm)
- Four M8x40 fastening screws for central adapter when not using spacer ring -2- (tightening torque max 15 Nm)
- When carrying out measurements on 991 vehicles, no rim runout compensation is required , provided that the wheel-alignment adapter is used as specified.
- In other words: Place the central adapter on the surface of the wheel -1- and not on the wheel bolt -2- (as with the 911 Turbo (997) and 911 Carrera GTS (997)).
- Contract surface (on wheel) for central adapter -1-
- Contact surface (on wheel bolt) for spacer ring -2- together with the central adapter -1-. The spacer ring -2- is not required in the case of the 911 Turbo (991) and 911 GT3 (991).
- Fit the measured-value pickups/measuring reflectors, together with the VAS 6830 wheel-alignment adapters (if necessary with 50 mm or 100 mm spoiler adapters), to the wheels.
All contact surfaces (on the central adapters and wheels) must be clean and flat. Always check the flat surfaces in particular before fitting the central adapters.
- Central adapter (without spacer ring)
- Screw (toggle)
- Spoiler adapter
- Measured-value pickup
Information
- A special tool for removing the crested hub cap can be obtained by quoting part number 991.361.079.00. This can also be used with the previous version (997).
- Alternatively: An auxiliary tool can be found in the serrated tool (in the luggage compartment). Pull this out of the square and put it back there again when you are finished.
- 1.1. Carefully lever the crested hub cap out using the special tool.
Insert its metal tab into the opening groove -1- on the central bolt and then swivel back the handle.
- 1.2. Fit the central adapter -1-
on the wheel (on the M8 thread in the middle of the lockable wheel bolt). All contact surfaces (central adapter and wheel) must be clean and flat.
Position the central adapter -1- , insert a short fastening screw (M8x40) and tighten hand-tight (tightening torque max. 15 Nm). When tightening the screw, hold the central adapter -1- securely (to prevent it from turning) so as not to damage the paintwork on the wheel.
- 1.3. Do the same on the other wheels (to fit the remaining central adapters).
- 1.4. Fit measured-value pickups -4- or measuring reflectors, possibly with spoiler adapters (50/100 mm long) -3- , on the central adapters -1- .
- Following wheel alignment, check or ensure that the lockable wheel bolt is locked. Do not fit the crested hub cap until you have done this.
- 2.1. Remove the wheel-alignment adapter and check that the locking pin on the lockable wheel bolt -arrow-
is still engaged in the central bolt. The end of the locking pin is then flush with the inner toothing of the central bolt -item 1-
.
When the central bolt is secured, the end of the locking pin -1- will be flush with the inner toothing of the central bolt.
If required, turn the locking pin -1- to the left and right using an auxiliary tool or a 1/2-inch square extension -direction arrows until it engages in the central bolt.
This applies to both road and race track use.
Never drive the vehicle when the locking pin is not engaged (risk of damage and danger of accidents).
- 2.2. Align the hub cap so that the locating stud -1-
points into the well -2-
of the central bolt.
Now push the hub cap into its seat until it locks securely in place. Grease the rubber ring on the cap lightly beforehand if necessary.
- 2.1. Remove the wheel-alignment adapter and check that the locking pin on the lockable wheel bolt -arrow-
is still engaged in the central bolt. The end of the locking pin is then flush with the inner toothing of the central bolt -item 1-
.
