Removing side airbag unit

WARNING: Danger of injury and damage to property as a result of incorrect handling of airbag units!

Please observe the following points:

  • The airbag unit must always be deposited so that the airbag opening faces upwards!
  • The airbag unit should be placed in a package or packed in film and, if removed for an extended period, stored under dry conditions in a locked room!
  • Observe the safety regulations!

  1. Remove ignition key.
  2. Disconnect the battery and cover terminal or battery.
  3. Remove door trim panel. Refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING DOOR TRIM PANEL - AS OF MY 1997 .
    NOTE:
    • Behind the "Airbag" inscription lies a screw M5 x 10 that is fastened on the fastening clip of the side airbag unit!
    • The fastening screws must always be replaced after removal!
  4. Remove cover with "Airbag" inscription and unscrew the screw.
  5. Disconnect electrical plug connection and undo fastening screws.
  6. Carefully remove side airbag unit from the door.

  7. Deposit airbag unit correctly.
