Removing belt tensioner

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2005 Porsche 911, 2004 Porsche 911, 2003 Porsche 911, 2002 Porsche 911, and 2001 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • As from model year 2002, the front three-point belts in the 911 Carrera (996) will contain belt tensioners as standard. After the belt tensioners have been triggered, they must be replaced. The triggering can be read out with the Porsche System Tester using the airbag control module (POSIP). Observe the direction of travel -arrow 3-. See Fig 1 .
  • If the belt tensioner has been triggered, cut through the belt strap before removing the belt tensioner. This ensures that the defective automatic belt device is not installed again.
  • It is necessary to make sure that the negative terminal of the battery is disconnected.
  • After disconnecting the battery, wait 1 minute before disconnecting the plug on the belt tensioner.
