Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Porsche Boxster and 2004 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove driver-side air bag unit and steering wheel. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG UNIT  . Contact ring will lock itself automatically when steering wheel is removed and unlock when steering wheel is installed.
  2. Remove 4 screws and steering column covers. Remove 2 screws, pull contact ring rearward and disconnect electrical connectors. See Fig 1 . Remove contact ring.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position and contact ring is centered with alignment arrows aligned. See Fig 2 . Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
