Installing Camshaft Housing

CAUTION:
Ingress of dirt
- Danger of material damage due to blocked oil bores/oil ducts.
→ Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the engine.
→ Lay removed engine parts on a clean base and make sure to cover them.
→ Use the cover for dust protection when fitting the engine NR.165 on the engine assembly support.
NOTE:
Interchanged or dirty bucket tappets
- Scoring on cylinder head
→ Since the bucket tappets have been run in the fitting bores, do not interchange them.
→ Absolute cleanliness is essential.
- Fit new seals for camshaft housing. Observe marking.
- 1.1. Fit new metal seal. Markings must be facing you.
- 1.1.1. Side 1-3: TOP 1-3/left .
- 1.1.2. Side 4-6: TOP 4-6/right .
- 1.2. Fit new molded seal for chain housing.
- 1.1. Fit new metal seal. Markings must be facing you.
- Place camshaft housing in position.
- 2.1. Be careful with the dowel sleeve -1- on the chain housing.
- Screw in 18 Torx screws (M8) evenly and tighten according to the prescribed tightening sequence.
- 3.1. Pre-tighten screws. → Initial tightening: 23 Nm (17 ft. lb.)
- 3.2. Tighten screws to final torque. → Final tightening: 28 Nm (21 ft. lb.)
- Coat fitting bores for tappets with new engine oil.
- 4.1. Fit bucket and switchable tappets at their original position. Be careful with the feather keys on the switchable tappets -arrow- .
