Installing Steering Gear - Four-Wheel Drive

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2013 Porsche 911, 2012 Porsche 911, 2011 Porsche 911, 2010 Porsche 911, and 2009 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Installation is performed in reverse order. It is essential to observe the following points while doing so:

  1. Insert the steering gear and fit front-axle cross member. Secure coolant pipes on the front-axle cross member.

Support for coolant pipe (M6 hexagon-head bolt)   Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
Support for coolant pipe (center of cross member) is positioned on the cross member positioned
  2. Fix the steering gear in place on the front-axle carrier using the two fastening screws (for ease of assembly, just insert fastening screws). Fit a red plastic clip on the steering-gear pinion and join universal joint (steering shaft) to the steering gear at the correct position - steering gear and steering wheel or airbag contact unit (spring) in center position.

The plastic clip ensures that the fastening screw securing the universal joint to the steering pinion sits in the groove on the steering pinion.
