Dismantling Differential And Differential Lock

- Clamp differential lock.
Clamp differential lock using Clamping Jaws 9646 into the vice.
- Mark installation position of cover.
Mark installation position of cover -8- relative to the housing for reinstallation.
- Remove bearing outer race.
- 3.1. Remove left bearing outer race (large).
Heat cover for differential up to approx. → Temperature: 120°C (248 °F) and push out left bearing outer race (large).
- 3.2. Remove right bearing outer race (small).
Drive out with aluminum or copper mandrel, changing sides.
- 3.1. Remove left bearing outer race (large).
- Detach taper roller bearing.
- 4.1. Detach taper roller bearing (large) -1- using suitable extractor, Pressure Pieces 9656 and Pressure Piece P254B .
- 4.2. Detach taper roller bearing (small) -3- using suitable extractor, Pressure Pieces 9656 and Pressure Piece P254B .
- Crown Wheel.
- 5.1. Undo screws -5- for crown wheel -2- .
- 5.2. Press off crown wheel -2- from differential housing -1- .
- Remove differential cover.
Undo countersunk-head screws -7- , remove cover -8- and remove all internal parts. Mark thrust rings -13, 17- for refitting.
