Removing Crankshaft

NOTE:
Dirt and contamination
- Risk of damage to units or components
→ Protect components from dirt and contamination.
→ Clean or replace dirty components.
CAUTION:
Removing/fitting the crankshaft pulley.
- Danger of injury and damage.
→ The holding wrench must make contact with the pulley when tightening.
→ Get another person to help.
- Remove aluminum pulley.

- 1.1. Get another person to counter while you do this.
- 1.2. Replace the hexagon-head bolt and friction washer.
- Screw off 18 hexagon nuts (M8) on the crankcase cross bolt connection.
- Unscrew the two short through bolts -13 and 14- on cylinder bank 4-6 (flywheel side).
- Screw off the fastening nuts (hexagon -1- and multiple-tooth -2- ) on the chain box (cylinder bank 1-3).
- Loosen through bolts in the sequence -5 to 15- .
- Pull off through bolts.
Information
- The through bolts in thrust blocks 2, 3, 4 and 5 -Arrows- can only be removed after lifting off crankcase half 1-3.
- Lift off crankcase half 1-3.
- Remove through bolts on the inner thrust blocks.
- 8.1. On the thrust blocks -2 and 4- , remove O-rings -arrows- .
- Lift out the crankshaft and place it on a clean surface.
- 9.1. Remove worn bearing shells.
- Disassemble the crankshaft if necessary.
- Clean the crankcase halves thoroughly before using them again.
