Refitting Used Connecting Rods

Information 

Always replace used connecting rod bolts.

  1. Dispose of old connecting rod bolts.
    WARNING: Caustic fluids
    • Danger of chemical burns

    → Avoid contact with caustic fluid.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Ensure that there is good ventilation.

    → If you do come into contact, wash off immediately with plenty of warm water and contact a doctor if necessary.

  2. Mount connecting rod on the crankshaft using new connecting rod bolts.
    1. 2.1. Clean thread on connecting rod cap using a nylon brush and solvent naphtha (e.g. Meta Clean 366). Blow out connecting rod thread with compressed air.
    2. 2.2. Insert new connecting rod bearings and coat with new engine oil.
    3. 2.3. Clean new connecting rod bolts with solvent naphtha (Meta Clean 366).
    4. 2.4. Dry connecting rod bolts with compressed air.
    5. 2.5. Coat screw thread and screw contact surface with new engine oil.
    6. 2.6. Mount connecting rod (observe matching number) and tighten connecting rod bolts by hand.
    7. 2.7. Fit connecting rod bolts according to specifications (see TECHNICAL VALUES TABLE ).
