Installing Clutch Slave Cylinder
Information
- Up to model year 2009: Remove the starter before installing the clutch slave cylinder. This makes it easier to check and ensure unequivocal centering of the valve push rod of the slave cylinder in the release lever.
- The clutch slave cylinder can also be held in its installation position from this side.
- Make sure the clutch slave cylinder is positioned precisely before installation. The exact installation position is attained by turning it in the vehicle.
- The loosely attached holder between the transmission and clutch slave cylinder ensures the correct installation height for positioning the fastening screws.
- Up to model year 2009: Remove the starter → 276019 REMOVING AND INSTALLING STARTER
The starter is installed at a different position from model year 2010 onwards. So, only remove the starter on vehicles up to MY 2009.
- Remove cover (rubber cap) -arrow- on upper clutch housing close to the release lever.
- Fit the clutch slave cylinder to the transmission housing/release lever. Make sure the push rod is positioned correctly.
Get another mechanic to help you to position the push rod correctly on the release lever.
For vehicles from model year 2010 onwards, fit (position/do not tighten yet) the short pressure line -3- for the booster circuit on the clutch slave cylinder before installing the clutch slave cylinder.
- 3.1. Fit the clutch slave cylinder into the vehicle with the push rod facing towards the transmission and turn it into its installation position.
- 3.2. Secure the holder (between the clutch slave cylinder and transmission) loosely to the clutch slave cylinder with a screw. It is very difficult to insert the screw later.
- 3.3. Fit the clutch slave cylinder to the transmission housing/release lever. Make sure the push rod is positioned correctly.
Do not tighten the fastening screws yet. This ensures better access to the pressure line -3- .
- Fit the pressure line -3-
on the clutch slave cylinder and secure the clutch slave cylinder.
- 4.1. Fit the pressure line -3- on the clutch slave cylinder, or on the intermediate piece -arrow- from model year 2010 onwards.
- 4.2. Tighten the pressure line -3-
.
→ Tightening torque: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
- 4.3. Secure the clutch slave cylinder.
→ Tightening torque: 45 Nm (33 ftlb.)
Holder: → Tightening torque: 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
- Fit the remaining lines -1 and 2- on the clutch slave cylinder.
- 5.1. Fit the return line -2- .
- 5.2. Fit the hose of the master cylinder line -1-
on the clutch slave cylinder.
→ Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22 ftlb.).
- Screw master cylinder line (plug-in coupling) from the clutch hydraulic system -arrow-
together (up to MY 2009) or connect together (from MY 2010 onwards). Then insert the plug-in coupling into the guide on the body.
Tightening torque for plug-in coupling up to MY 2009 (wrench size 15 mm): 30 Nm (22 ftlb.)
