Installing Rear Spring Strut

WARNING: Incorrect handling of safety bolts
  • Danger of injury
  • Loss of torque

→ Always use new fastening screws and nuts following removal.

→ Observe specified tightening torques.

→ Carry out a visual inspection of all re-used parts.

Information 

Protect electric lines when removing and installing the spring strut on vehicles with PASM.

Do not lift/transport the spring strut/shock absorber at the electric lines.

Check the spring strut for leaks in the shock absorber before installation.

Make sure that the retaining pins do not damage the paint surface when fitting the spring strut. (Seal damaged areas with suitable preservative).

Observe correct tightening torques and torque angles.

→ 4X00IN TIGHTENING TORQUES FOR REAR AXLE .

Always replace fastening screws that are tightened to a torque angle.

Always replace lock nuts.

  1. Guide lower spring strut in between the trailing arms and fit on the top of the body.

    Vehicles with PASM:  Connect electric line for spring strut to the connector and clip it into the holder.

    WARNING: Wheel bearing housing raised incorrectly
    • Risk of squashing
    • Risk of damage to components

    → Wear personal protective gear.

    → Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).

  2. Lift the wheel bearing housing using engine and gearbox jack WE 1599  (-1-  ) until the lower wishbone -2-  is positioned horizontally (0 position).

  3. Tighten fastening screw securing rear spring strut to wheel bearing housing.
  4. Fit rear anti-roll bar. Not required on the 911 GT3 (because anti-roll bar is at a different position). 

    → Installing Rear Anti-Roll Bar  .

  5. Tighten new fastening screw and new fastening nut securing lower wishbone to wheel bearing housing.
  6. Engine and gearbox jack WE 1599  can now be lowered and moved aside.
