Removing Wheel Bearing Housing
Information
- If assembly work was performed or parts replaced that affect the vehicle height, a complete wheel alignment is necessary.
- Protect electric line when removing and installing the spring strut on vehicles with PASM.
- Do not lift/transport the spring strut/vibration damper at the electric lines.
- The ignition must be switched off before disconnecting the plug connection (PASM) for the spring strut.
- The spring strut and wheel bearing housing are removed from the vehicle together.
- A second mechanic is needed in order to remove the spring strut/wheel bearing housing.
- Disconnect plug connection on the speed sensor.
- Remove retaining bracket for brake hose/speed sensor and wear indicator.
- Remove connecting link at the anti-roll bar. Only for vehicles without PDCC.
- Vehicles with PDCC: Remove connecting link (PDCC actuator) at the spring strut holder.
- Screw off linkage for height sensor on the lower trailing arm -1- .
- Loosen tie-rod ball -Step 1- and lower trailing arm -Step 2- at the wheel bearing housing and press off the ball joints using special tool press-off tool 9560 .
- Disconnect plug connection for PASM in -holder- (only on vehicles with PASM).
- Mark the installation position of the spring strut mount (position of collar nuts -1-2-3- ). Loosen lock nuts on the spring strut mount.
- For all-wheel drive vehicles, attach protection to the drive shaft (drive shaft remains fitted on the front-axle final drive).
- Pull out/remove spring strut with wheel bearing housing.
- Loosen clamped connection between spring strut/wheel bearing housing.
Vehicles without PDCC: Remove connecting link. Counter with an open-ended wrench when doing this. Vehicles with PDCC: Remove hexagon-head bolt (M12 x 70) and lock nut.
