Programming Control Unit For All-Wheel Drive (PTM)

NOTE: Voltage drop
  • Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
  • Risk of damage to control unit
  • Fault entries in the control unit
  • Coding in the control unit is aborted
  • Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.

→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester II 9818  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818  .

  1. PIWIS Tester II 9818  must be connected to the vehicle before starting PIWIS Tester II 9818  . Switch on ignition. Press [F12] to continue.
  2. Start the diagnostic application and select the required vehicle type.
  3. Select the Porsche Traction Management (PTM)  control unit in the overview  .
  4. Select the Maintenance/repairs  tab. Press [F12] to continue.
  5. Select Control unit replacement  . Press [F12] to continue.

    Information 

    If the data and coding cannot be read out of the faulty control unit for all-wheel drive (PTM), the new control unit for all-wheel drive (PTM) must be coded automatically.

  6. Select Read data  mode. Press [F12] to continue.

    Information 

    If the clutch class cannot be read out from the old control unit, this must be determined using the current transmission number. The clutch class is a letter between A and L and is shown as the seventh character of the transmission number.

  7. Take note of the clutch class shown on PIWIS Tester II 9818  . Press [F12] to continue.
  8. As soon as the message Data was read out  appears, press [F12] to continue.
  9. Switch off ignition.
  10. Replace control unit for all-wheel drive (PTM). → 399519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CONTROL UNIT FOR ALL-WHEEL DRIVE (PTM) 
  11. Switch on ignition.
  12. Select Write data  mode. Press [F12] to continue.
  13. Check the vehicle identification number and confirm it. Press [F12] to continue.

    Information 

    If the clutch class cannot be read out from the old control unit, this must be determined using the current transmission number. The clutch class is a letter between A and L and is shown as the seventh character of the transmission number.

  14. Enter the clutch class you took note of earlier. Press [F12] to continue.
  15. As soon as the message Data has been written  appears, press [F12] to continue.
  16. Exit the diagnostic application.
  17. PIWIS Tester II 9818  must now be disconnected from the vehicle.
