Preliminary Work

Information 

• The tie rod (toe control arm) -2- can only be installed when the rear-axle carrier side section -2- is removed. 
• The tie rod -2- is referred to as the toe control arm in the description below.

1. Raise the vehicle.

   → 4X00IN LIFTING THE VEHICLE .

2. Remove wheel.

   → 440519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING WHEEL .

3. Remove cover for rear underbody.

   → 519419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING COVER FOR REAR UNDERBODY .

   On the Cabriolet, also remove the support plate.

   → 421419 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SUPPORT PLATE ".

4. Remove rear-axle cross member.

   → 420619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR-AXLE CROSS MEMBER .

5. Remove wheel bearing housing with drive shaft fitted.

   In other words: Contrary to the description  → 425219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR WHEEL BEARING HOUSING , loosen the drive shaft at the transmission (rather than removing it from the wheel bearing housing).
