Removing Side Member Reinforcement

  1. Remove A-pillar section.
    1. 1.1. Cut A-pillar section to dimension -A-  at the marked area -X-  .

      → Dimension - A -: 120 mm 

      Information 

      Drill out the connection point on one side only. Do not damage the plate underneath.

    2. 1.2. Drill out spotwelds. Spotweld drill bit Nr.129 Pneumatic spotweld remover, Vario Drill WS 90 WE 1139 
    3. 1.3. Heat bonding areas. Hot-air blower, Leister-Electron/V.A.G. 1416 WE 1119 
    4. 1.4. Remove A-pillar section. Make sure that the section of the A-pillar does not lose its shape so that it can be re-used.

      Information 

      Drill out the connection point on one side only. Do not damage the plate underneath.

  2. Drill out spotwelds using spotweld drill  .
    1. 2.1. Grind down welded seams -arrows-  .

      Information 

      Drill out the connection point on one side only. Do not damage the plate underneath.

  3. Drill out spotwelds using spotweld drill  .
    1. 3.1. Grind down welded seam -A-  .

      Information 

      Drill out spotwelds B  through two plate thicknesses.

    2. 3.2. Drill through spotwelds in area -B-  using spotweld drill Nr.129  .

  4. Heat the marked bonding areas.
    1. 4.1. Heat the bonding surfaces -1-  of the reinforcements from inside and loosen using a body chisel if necessary.
    2. 4.2. Remove side member reinforcement.
