Installing Side Member Reinforcement And Inner Side Section

  1. Install side member reinforcement and check that it fits perfectly. Check gap dimensions. → WM 5X00IN GAP DIMENSIONS (EXCEPT CARRERA "EDITION", CARRERA CABRIOLET "EDITION", CARRERA 4 "EDITION", TARGA 4, TARGA 4S, TARGA 4 GTS, CARRERA 4 CABRIOLET "EDITION") .

    Information 

    • Before final assembly, make sure you fully understand all the work steps involved and carry out a trial assembly without applying adhesive. 
    • The bonding process can only be carried out reliably when a smooth and swift sequence of operations is guaranteed. 
    • Do not begin bonding work until all materials and tools necessary for later repair work are available. 
  2. Apply adhesive to the marked areas. → Application depth: 3.0 mm 

    Working with body structural adhesive → WM 5X00IN WORKING WITH BODY STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE (EXCEPT CARRERA "EDITION", CARRERA CABRIOLET "EDITION", CARRERA 4 "EDITION", CARRERA 4 CABRIOLET "EDITION") .

    Green Bonding + resistance spot-welding
    Yellow Bonding + riveting
    Blue Bonding
    Red Plug-welding/apply a full weld using inert gas without bonding
  3. Resistance spot-weld the side member reinforcement.
    1. 3.1. Rivet in area -A;B and C-  . → BLIND RIVET 999.190.227.01
    2. 3.2. Apply a full weld to the area -arrows-  using inert gas.

  4. Install inner side section and check that it fits perfectly. Check gap dimensions. → WM 5X00IN GAP DIMENSIONS (EXCEPT CARRERA "EDITION", CARRERA CABRIOLET "EDITION", CARRERA 4 "EDITION", TARGA 4, TARGA 4S, TARGA 4 GTS, CARRERA 4 CABRIOLET "EDITION") .

    Information

    Green Bonding + resistance spot-welding
    Yellow Bonding + riveting
    Blue Bonding

  6. Fit in and secure inner side section.
    1. 6.1. Push in inner side section in area -arrows-  .
    2. 6.2. Rivet in area -A-  . → BLIND RIVET 999.190.227.01

  7. Rivet in area -A-  . → BLIND RIVET 999.190.229.01

  8. Resistance spot-weld the inner side section.
    1. 8.1. Apply a full weld to the area -A-  using inert gas.
    2. 8.2. Rivet in area -B-  . → BLIND RIVET 999.190.229.01
    3. 8.3. Rivet in area -C-  . → BLIND RIVET 999.190.227.01

  9. Resistance spot-weld the inner side section.

    Information 

    • The side member reinforcement and inner side section are installed together in one step. 
    • Resistance spot-welds are applied to both components at the same time. 
  10. The side member reinforcement -2-  and inner side section -1-  are resistance spot-welded to the top of the cross member -3-  in one step.
    1. 10.1. Apply a full weld to area -A & D-  using inert gas.
    2. 10.2. Rivet in area -B-  . → BLIND RIVET 999.190.229.01
    3. 10.3. Rivet in area -C-  . → BLIND RIVET 999.190.227.01

  11. Install A-pillar section.
    1. 11.1. Plug-weld area -B and C-  carefully.
    2. 11.2. Apply a full weld to area -X-  using inert gas.
