Loosening Main Wire Harness In Passenger Compartment At The Left

  1. Plug connection for subwoofer in dashboard, left
  2. Plug connections for control unit for front-end electronics (6 connectors)
  3. Plug connections for wire harness for dashboard (4 connectors, at side of fuse carrier)
  4. Plug connections for left door (2 connectors, at top of fuse carrier)
  5. Plug connection for front and rear lid release
  6. Plug connections for seat (2 connectors)
  7. Plug connections for control unit for ParkAssist (3 connectors)
  8. Plug connection for airbag sensor on side member
  9. Plug connections for control unit for rear-end electronics (4 connectors)
  10. Plug connections for TV tuner (2 connectors)
  11. Plug connections for front three-point seat belt (2 connectors)
  12. Plug connections for loudspeakers (2 connectors)
  13. Plug connection for sensor for body
  14. Plug connection on EPB control unit
  15. Plug connections for control unit for PASM (2 connectors)
  16. Plug connections for main wire harness at the right (3 connectors)
NOTE: Incorrect handling of main wire harness
  • Risk of damage to lines

→ The main wire harness contains all airbag lines, antenna lines and optical waveguides.

→ The main wire harness must not be separated and is always replaced as a complete wire harness when carrying out extensive repairs.

→ If individual lines are damaged, shut off these lines and install new lines. Lay the new lines along the main wire harness and secure them to the main wire harness.

Always comply with the regulations for handling ESD-sensitive components!

  1. Disconnect ground straps.

    1. 1.1. Unscrew fastening nuts -1-  and remove ground straps.
  2. Disconnect plug connections for dashboard wire harness.

    1. 2.1. Release plug connections at the left fuse box -A-  and remove them -B-  .
    2. 2.2. Release plug connections -a-  and pull them off -C-  .
  3. Release plug connection at the door connection point -1-  (-a-  ) and pull it off -B-  .

  4. Loosen the fuse box.

    1. 4.1. Unscrew fastening nut -1-  .

      Remove the fuse box -arrow-  .

    2. 4.2. Set the fuse box aside.
  5. Disconnect plug connection for subwoofer. → 913619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING SUBWOOFER
  6. Loosen bracket for control unit for front-end electronics.

    1. 6.1. Unscrew the two fastening nuts -1-  and remove the bracket.
  7. Disconnect plug connection for TV tuner. → 911719 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TV TUNER
    1. 7.1. Set foam insert for control unit for ParkAssist and control unit for rear-end electronics aside.

      For NAR vehicles 

  8. Disconnect plug connections for front three-point belt at the left and unclip line clips. → 691119 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT THREE-POINT BELT
  9. Disconnect sub-part for rear left wheel housing (TPM). → WM 970955 REPLACING SUB-PART FOR REAR LEFT WHEEL HOUSING (TPM) 

    For vehicles with PASM: 

    • Disconnect components for PASM.

    • Carefully disconnect electric line from the PASM spring strut at the connector -A-  and unclip it from the bracket on the main wire harness -B-  .
    • Release plug connection for sensor for body -a-  and pull it off -C-  .
    • Remove PASM control unit. → 431619 REMOVING AND INSTALLING PASM CONTROL UNIT
  10. Release plug connections for main wire harness at the right -a-  and pull them off -B-  .

  11. Release mounting for wire harness.
    1. 11.1. Remove rubber sleeve for the engine compartment from the body aperture.
    2. 11.2. Unclip the cable duct -1-  at the fastening points -2-  .

    3. 11.3. Unclip fixing clips -3-  for wire harness at the rear wheel arch.
    4. 11.4. Loosen cable straps -1-  and unclip cable clip -2-  .

    5. 11.5. Unclip the fixing clips -1-  on the A-pillar.

      Check line clips and replace them if necessary.
