Replacing Instrument Cluster
Information
If automatic coding is not possible, manual coding is to be carried out in accordance with vehicle equipment.
NOTE:
Voltage drop
- Risk of irreparable damage to control unit
- Risk of damage to control unit
- Fault entries in the control unit
- Coding in the control unit is aborted
- Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming
→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle battery.
Information
The PIWIS Tester II 9818 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear in PIWIS Tester II 9818 .
- Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type and start the PIDT.
- Select the required control unit Instrument cluster in the overview .
- Select Maintenance/repairs .
- Select Control unit replacement and press [F12].
- Read data and press [F12].
- Press [F8] to start reading out data.
- Check the chassis number and press [F12].
- Document the total distance and fuel level.
- Switch off ignition and replace control unit. → 902519 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INSTRUMENT CLUSTER .
- Switch on ignition and select Instrument cluster control unit.
- Read out the fault memory and erase it if necessary.
- Select the Extended identification menu.
- Select Vehicle identification number and enter the VIN, then press "Enter" to confirm your entry.
- Select Maintenance/repairs menu, Control unit replacement and Write data , then press [F12] and press [F8] to start. The data that was read out is installed.
- The System Tester displays the message Data has been written . Press [F12] to continue.
- Select the Set total mileage function and press [F12].
- Read the warning on the Tester and press [F12].
- Select the total distance and enter the value that was read out in Step 12. Then press "Enter" to confirm your entry and press [F8] to write data.
- Select Coding , Automatic coding to perform coding in accordance with the instructions on the Tester.
- Read out the fault memory and erase it if necessary.
- Return to the overview of control units.
- Check the function of the instrument cluster and fuel level gauge during the test drive.
