Installing Spark Plugs
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTIFICATION
Broken spark plug electrodes
- Bits of electrodes can fall into the combustion chamber
Information
- Only use spark plugs approved by Porsche AG!
- Check electrode gap before screwing in a new spark plug.
- The electrode gap is printed on the spark plug as a numeric code and is interpreted differently depending on the manufacturer.
For example, for an NGK spark plug: B C P R 7 E S - 11 -> 11 = 1.1 mm electrode gap
Example for a Bosch spark plug: W R 7 D T C X -> X = 1.1 mm electrode gap
- There is no number code printed on spark plugs with the PORSCHE part number 0PB905612 (BOSCH R8). Electrode gap = 0.7 mm
- Check electrode gap.
> Control value 0.7 mm + 0.1 mm
- Tighten spark plugs using > 3122B - Spark plug wrench
.
Spark plugs for cylinders 3 and 6 need a shorter tool setup! Use a medium extension with a cardan joint and spark plug socket for this.
For re-installing the spark plug: > Tightening torque 25 Nm (19 ftlb.) + 1.5 Nm (1 ftlb.)
For a new spark plug: > Tightening torque 30 Nm (22 ftlb.) + 1.5 Nm (1 ftlb.)
