Measuring Radial Play Of Connecting Rods

Recommended tool for measuring radial play of connecting rods: Plastigage Nr.52 Pos.1 

  1. Remove connecting-rod bearing cap. → 131020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING PISTONS 
  2. Clean the bearing cover and bearing pin.
  3. Place Plastigage  corresponding to the width of the bearing on the bearing pin or into the bearing shells.
  4. Fit connecting-rod bearing cap and tighten old screws to 50 Nm/37 ftlb.  without additional torque angle. Do not turn the crankshaft.
  5. Remove connecting-rod bearing cap again.
  6. Compare the width of the Plastigage  with the measurement scale.
