Replacing front disc brake pads

WARNING: Installation of brake pads with the wrong brake pad quality
  • Longer braking distance
  • More wear on brake pads

→ Only use the type-specific brake pads listed in the Porsche Spare Parts Catalogue.

→ Replace the brake pads when the brake pad wear indicator light comes on, but no later than when there is a residual pad thickness of 2 mm on each axle.

→ Replace the brake discs on each axle as soon as the brake pad wear limit is reached.

NOTE:
  • To gain better access for removal of the brake calliper, turn the steering fully either to the right or left  .
  1. Remove line for brake pad wear indicator -1  -.

    Wire harness for brake pad wear indicator 

    1. 1.1. Release and unplug electric plug connection -2  -.
    2. 1.2. Remove electric connector -2  - from the holder.
    3. 1.3. Loosen line for brake pad wear indicator from holder -3  -.
    4. 1.4. Disconnect contact for brake pad wear indicator -4  - from the brake pad.
    NOTE: Removal of brake calliper
    • Paint defects on brake calliper

    → Proceed with care when setting back the brake pads.

    → Protect brake calliper from paint defects using a suitable cloth.

  2. Press back brake pistons with brake pads installed using piston resetting appliance T10145  (position piston resetting appliance on the backing plates of the installed brake pads).
    NOTE:
    • Make sure not to scratch or damage the paint on the brake calliper  .
    • The pad retaining spring is tensioned  .
  3. Carefully press pad retaining pins out of the brake calliper from the outside in using a punch.

  4. Remove brake pads and pad retaining spring from the brake calliper.
    WARNING: Old mounting parts fitted on the brake calliper
    • Reduced braking effect
    • Risk of damage to the brake calliper

    → Fit new pad retaining springs

    → Fit new fastening screws

  5. Replace pad retaining spring.
  6. Clean the brake calliper. Brake pistons must be free of adhesive residues!
  7. Pull protective film off the backing plate on the new brake pads.
    NOTE:
    • The direction arrow on the brake pads must be pointing in rolling direction  .
    • The brake pad with the brake pad wear cable must be on the inside  .
  8. Fit brake pads into the brake calliper.
    NOTE: The pad retaining pin must be seated securely in both bores so that it can no longer loosen by itself.
  9. Fit pad retaining pins -1 and 3  - and pad retaining spring -2  -.

    1. 9.1. Press pad retaining pin -1  - through the bore in the brake calliper from the inside out. Press pad retaining pin as far as it will go using a punch if necessary.
    2. 9.2. Engage pad retaining spring -2  - on the upper pad retaining pin and tension it (in order to fit pad retaining pin -3  -).
    3. 9.3. Press pad retaining pin -3  - through the bore in the brake calliper from the inside out. Press pad retaining pin as far as it will go using a punch if necessary.
  10. Fit line for brake pad wear indicator -1  -.

    1. 10.1. Secure line for brake pad wear indicator at the holder -3  -.
    2. 10.2. Connect and lock electric plug connection -2  -.
    3. 10.3. Secure electric connector -2  - at the holder.
