Removing Pistons

  1. Mark installation position of the piston and its allocation to the relevant cylinder.

    Installation position: Arrow on piston crown is pointing to the pulley.

  2. Mark installation position of the connecting rod and its allocation to the relevant cylinder.
  3. Remove connecting-rod bearing cap and pull piston with connecting rod up and out.
  4. Remove circlips from the piston pin eye.
    NOTE:
    • If the piston pin is stiff, heat the piston to around 60 °C (140 °F). 
  5. Drive out piston pin using drift VW 222 A  .
