Description And Operation: Overview
The V8 5.0L Supercharged (S/C) Petrol low pressure fuel system supplies fuel to the high pressure fuel pumps mounted on the engine.
The fuel system uses an electronically controlled return less fuel system. This will allow the LP fuel pump in the fuel tank to deliver fuel to the HP fuel pumps, dependant on engine demand. The in-tank LP fuel pump's pressure and flow is varied by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM varies the pressure and flow with increased system pressure up to 7.3 bar (105.9 lnf/in2 ) absolute at high temperature and matches the flow in support of engine fueling requirements.
The fuel pump operation is regulated by a Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) which is controlled by the PCM. The FPDM regulates the flow and pressure supplied by controlling the operation of the fuel pump using a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) output.
