Information On The Test Steps

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2019 Porsche 911, 2018 Porsche 911, 2017 Porsche 911, 2016 Porsche 911, and 2015 Porsche 911. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Checking involves the following tasks:

  1. Determining current actual values (wear condition) using tester VAS 6813 (at the three measurement markings).

Aligning/positioning tester VAS 6813 -1-  using a laser beam -2-  at the measurement marking.

Observe the required conditions! See: → 465102 CHECKING FRONT PCCB BRAKE DISCS (WEAR ASSESSMENT USING TEST EQUIPMENT VAS 6813)

  2. Visual inspection of the brake disc friction surfaces for surface changes.

Flaking/fractures as a result of unusual usage conditions (e.g. stone chip damage). Max. 1.0 cm2 permitted!

Surface roughness (Rk) (max. 80 μm permitted) since this affects braking comfort (noises), braking behavior/pedal pressure and brake pad service life.

    Information

    • Checking of the minimum brake disc thickness is no longer necessary (measurement no longer shown on brake disc hub).

    Information

    • Irrespective of wear, a brake disc change may be necessary due to edge damage on the brake disc friction surfaces.
    • In this case, only one brake disc can be replaced if the measured value (determined using test equipment VAS 6813) and the friction surface of the other PCCB brake disc are still perfectly OK.
  3. Check brake discs for edge damage -see Fig 2figure- (damage due to improper use).

    • Max. permissible width/depth = 2 mm (0.08 inches)
    • Max. permitted length = 10 mm (0.39 inches)
    • Max. 3 damaged edge areas permissible
