Disassembling Gear Housing

- Remove screw plug.
Screw out screw plug -1- using an Allen key.
- Remove outer bearing ring.
- 2.1. Remove snap ring -2, 5- using a screwdriver.
- 2.2. Drive-out outer bearing ring -4, 7- using special tool pressure piece p 254 b or special tool pressure piece p 254 a and special tool Pull-In Tool And Extractor P 254 .
- Remove snap ring.
Remove snap ring -3, 6- from the groove in the outer bearing ring.
- Remove ball sleeve.
Tap ball sleeve out -8 through 11- using internal puller (14 - 20 mm) and special tool Striker VW 771 .
- Remove gear housing.

- Remove screw plug.
Screw out screw plug -12- and remove compression spring and locking pin -13, 14- .
- Remove gearshift lever.
Pull out gearshift and rubber washer -16, 21- .
- Remove shift segment.
- 8.1. Remove lock washer -15- using a screwdriver.
- 8.2. Remove shift segment and roller -17, 18- inwards.
- Remove shaft sealing ring.
Prise shaft sealing ring -19- out using a screwdriver.
- Remove bearing sleeve.
Drive out bearing sleeve -20- using special tool pressure piece 9648 .
