Replacing trailing-arm bearing

→ Read specific safety information for the press.

→ Check that the press is working perfectly before use, particularly the safety components.

The assembly tool T40184  as well as the pressure plate VW 401  and pressure plate VW 402  are required in order to replace the bearing.

1. Bearing can be replaced.
2. Bearing cannot be replaced. Replace the wheel bearing housing if it is damaged → 425219 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR WHEEL BEARING HOUSING .

1. Press out bearing -1-. 
   1. 1.1. Fit pressure plate T40184/2  on the bearing in such a way that the nubs -1-  engage in the grooves -2-.

   2. 1.2. Use pressure pieces as follows → Arrangement of tools for pressing out bearings  .

      Information 

      Bearing is tensioned when pressing it off!

2. Press in new bearing -1-. 

   Information 

   The bearing is pre-tensioned by pressing in the pressure piece T40184/3  (inner wall of the pressure piece is conical). This is necessary so that the bearing can be pressed into the bearing sleeve.

   1. 2.1. Press bearing into pressure piece T40184/3. 

      Information 

      The nubs of the bearing and the thin collar of the pressure piece must be facing upwards when pushing in the bearing!

      Use pressure pieces as follows → Pressing bearing into pressure piece  .

      Press in the bearing until it protrudes by approx. 5 mm on the other side of the pressure piece → Dimension for pressing in bearing  .

   2. 2.2. Fit bearing on the wheel bearing housing using pressure piece T40184/3  (bearing is facing downwards). Check installation position of the bearing.

      Use pressure pieces as follows: (Pressure piece T40184/2  is not visible here) → Arrangement of tools for pressing in bearings

      Press in bearing until it is flush with the edge
